Working with a brand for years at a time creates the unique problem of slowly allowing the visual brand to evolve, and to inform tangential brand communications. The brand language developed for FFA represented a successful and strategic culling of Chacos’ existing brand language into a tighter system taking full advantage of the brand typography, color, illustration, and layout.

Rechaco follows a trend towards sustainability observable in a variety of major footwear and clothing maufactures. ReChaco is an incredible opportunity for storytelling, building strong relationship with consumers, promoting sustainable manufacturing, as well as creating jobs within their local community of Rockford, Michigan. The identity leans heaviliy into DIY aesthetics, such as the rough “painted” Future characters within the logotype. The brand language is meant to be playful and engaging, so we featured a number of patch designs and illustrations to expand the visual system.

University of Illinois-ChicagoGallery 400— 
Let Me Be An Object that Screams




	Let Me Be An Object That Screams was a gallery show curated by SAIC drawing and painting faculty, Matthew Wayne Morris for which a short publication was produced. Morris’ curatorial perspective is highly idiosyncratic, psychological, and layered—qualities revealed during early walk-through’s of the show in which Matt traced a linear trajectory from one piece to the next, outlining a narrative through-line that brings each piece into context.
When asked to design a catalog for the exhibit, steps were taken to resist designing outright, and instead to cultivate an open dialog with the curator. The catalog was designed to create a physical, tactile, space within which the works of art can be viewed and understood—a translation of the experience of being there in person, inspired by Morris’ curatorial narrative.

The black ink tends to optically bleed to the edge of the page. Without a true edge stain this book is relatively successful at creating the impression of a solid black shape, as if it was a slice of obsidian or stone. A book is an object, perhaps even a sculpture in certain cases.

Symbolic language was used in lieu of a traditional book cover. The “Screaming Object” as it became known emphasizes the physicality of the book by subverting the language of the book [as an object].

Interior Define—
Defined By Digital &#38;amp; Social Campaign

	Interior Define offers custom, luxury sofas through tailored online and in-person interactions with design specialists. The brand is built upon simplicity, efficiency, and clarity. 
The Defined By campaign was meant to place specific emphasis on the more emotional, or idiosyncratic side of the buying experience. By focusing on a variety of buying personas, we highlighted lifestyle scenarios that inspire specific design sentiments, whether through fabric, form, or function. Someoddpilot created a campaign to bring energy to their existing design system and set the stage for a variety of photographic assets including lifestyle images, product photography, social strategy &#38;amp; content, as well as animated assets.

The campaign focused on a series of image pairs inspired by the aesthetic and functional benefits of the furniture, and informed by demographic research. Using unique characters we were able to capture unique personas complete with unique environments punctuated by a variety of items that help to create a narrative moment within each image pair.

The typographic system sought to build upon existing typographic rules so as to maintain a certain level of proximity to the current brand language. However, with more of an emotional message, the typographic system took advantage of scale, combining typefaces, as well as establishing styles for more graphic use of typography.

The campaign also carried through social with a variety of content types and styles to round out the campaign and to drive interaction to Interior Define’s instagram feed. These assets expand upon both the visual system, as well as the overarching concept. These new content buckets, or themes, offer a more layered, nonlinear interaction in their respective social channels.

	Ocochi Bedding &#38;amp; Fabrics
—Brand Identity
	Ocochi is a unique fabric and bedding startup that leverages the myriad physical and environmental benefits of bamboo fiber as a material for bedding. Ocochi was positioned within an eco-luxury space to stand out in a market saturated with DTC disruptors that all look and sound the same. 
The visual identity playfully uses the simple custom bowed ‘H’ which reveals itself to be a modular illustration of a bamboo chute. This subtle adjustment, combined with soft colors, and geometric patterns give the brand a balance of luxury and approachability.&#38;nbsp;

The intention with the Ocochi logotype was to focus on the brand name itself—being a newcomer to the industry and having chosen a curious name, the written mark felt natural. This tempered the necessity for something that relied to heavily on literal imagery. The result is a bit more effortless, allowing for the brand to be understated. The adjusted ‘H’ in this case is more stylistic, however, once it is expanded into the brand’s signature pattern, the bamboo image becomes clear. This larger visual system gives the brand an ability to oscilate between elevated and playful.

	Though not initially part of the project scope, patterns became a featured design elements on a set of pillows also carried by Ocochi. These patterns helped to develop a visual language for the brand that meshes well with their target markets everyday design aesthetic.

	As Saucony’s agency of record, Someoddpilot’s creative team is contantly engaged in a variety of projects to support Saucony footwear. Whether it is producing a photo shoot, concepting product launches, developing digital assets, or planning unique print pieces—the creative team at Someoddpilot supports the brand through a range of mediums and perspectives One of the initial creative efforts for Saucony was a major reevaluation of the brand itself, from its visual style to its tone of voice. Run for Good was adopted as the brands tagline and rallying cry—a point of connection for consumers and retailers alike. The result is a rich brand universe defined by a legacy of athletic prowess, a do-it-yourself approach to the sport of running, and a tech portfolio to back-up products with data and science.

Unique print pieces offer Saucony an opportunity to connect with their sales reps and help them to understand the world of Saucony. However, digital campaigns and projects represent a key touchpoint in communicating the brand to the larger world. The variety of access points to the brand requires a consideration for a variety of channels and mediums. Digital campaigns allow for a greater degree of flexibility in introducing motion and dynamic elements to the brand—an important trajectory for brands hoping to increase social engagement.

We highlighted Saucony’s heritage with a new look and feel for their advertisements inspired by vintage Saucony ads. We pushed more personality into the typography by utilizing Gotham Ultra, with tight tracking, to offset the simple structure of the ads. Bold, easy to create, and with clear narrative thread, these ad templates have been a mainstay in Saucony’s toolkit.

Herman Miller —Future State Brand &#38;amp; Program


	In 2017, Herman Miller approached Someoddpilot to create an event series aimed at engaging promising young design voices emerging in the architecture and design community. New ideas; new perspectives; new customers; this program was unique in its ability to create early opportunities for engagement between Herman Miller and the next generation of designers.

Representatives from Someoddpilot and Herman Miller visited a select group of cities and design studios in order to hold open forums aimed at sharing ideas, exploring unique prompts, and aiding in visual exercises that all explore the future of architecture and design. Ultimately, the perspectives, ideas, and creations created by the Future State participants were culled together into a small publication as well as a social campaign to promote the content.

The Future State mark and subsequent custom character set, which became a key feature of the brand, was inspired by a number of stencil tools used and developed by architects to help create quick, clean, typographic forms in drafting and sketching. The resultant typeface is unique, playful, and bold—a voice that stands out from the classically modernist Herman Miller brand. The campaign needed to set itself apart from such a tight system—to stand out amongst the bevy of Herman Miller marketing materials already out there.

The event series culminated with a publication aimed at documenting the series as well as the ideas that came out of it. Through premium printing, unique materials, and engaging visual elements, the book was designed to recreate the experience and the energy of the event; to translate it into a new medium suited for posterity.

	Social was an excellent opportunity to utilize a broad array of content generated through the months of programing for Future State. Event documentation, collages, diagrams, Future State brand content, and even short animations developed in collaboration with the A/V team at Someoddpilot.

Vue53 represented a major collaborative effort between Valerio, Dewalt, Train Associates and the studio’s internal brand &#38;amp; design studio, Media Objectives. The building— designed by architect Joe Valerio—bears a number of distinct characteristics championed by his design aesthetic; a unique juxtaposition between modernist geometry and brutalist use of materials. As a mixed use building, branding, wayfinding, and placemaking were important elements of the building itself. The desire was to seamlessly marry the bulding and the brand into a cohesive experience.

	The exterior of the building served as an important point of inspiration for the logo as well as the visual system that tracks through the building. The strong relationship between horizontal and vertical lines is distinctly present in the structure itself, which uses dense horizontal strips to give the facade a shorter profile. This was the main inspiration behind the linework patterns that accent the interior environments and signage.&#38;nbsp;

	Cirrus is an industry leader in private, luxury aircraft design, manufacture, and sales. Their product is an amazing piece of technology and unequivocally the core of Cirrus. However, as the brand communications have become increasingly digital, as did the need for more hi-touch, streamlined user experiences. Individuals with the means and desire to become a Cirrus consumer are emerging every day, and their familiarity with technology and design is growing as well. 
The new website experience is intended to become of hub for the brand—not only a source of sales information, but a space for a growing community of consumers, enthusiasts, and experts alike. The design and experience needed to capture the excitement and adventure of ultimate freedom—a space for users to explore what it means to live the “Cirrus Life.”

	In developing a new look and feel for the website, the visual language of the brand was also audited as part of the design process. With a slim design system in place, the website had an opportunity to push the visual impact of the Cirrus brand. Typefaces, colors, and design were distilled into a tighter visual logic that could elevate the existing brand without introducing entirely new elements. This updated system served as a formal and functional guide to designing everything in the site, from editorial typography to animated UI elements.

The site was designed by developing a series of “modules”—designs (or wireframes) that could be easily re-purporsed and re-skinned easily depending on the desired content or functionality. Modules helped both the design and the development teams to collaboratively manage the large amount of content contained on the website, while maintaining an engaging experience for the user.

The PDP experience for a personal jet is unsurprisingly quite a bit different than a traditional “ecommerce” experience (if the term can be applied)—certainly more akin to luxury auto-mobiles. The magnitude of the purchase is matched with highly in-depth content, diagrams, data, photography, and more.&#38;nbsp;
